Today, we are putting the spotlight on long-time Brandywine Technology employee, Tony Fertitta. Here’s what Tony had to share regarding his experience with his current employer.

Brandywine Technology Employee Tony FertittaQ: Thanks for spending a few minutes with me, Tony. Can you tell me about your current assignment?

A: I am currently working at the State of Delaware, Department of Education. It’s hard to believe, but I have actually been here 8 years!

Q: That is quite a tenure. It sounds like a good fit for you. What are you doing to the Department of Education?

A: I mostly work on database projects as an analyst and developer. Most of my work is focused on a higher education project geared toward helping students apply for college scholarships. It is a very rewarding role.

Q: How did you originally find Brandywine Technology?

A: Actually, Brandywine Technology found me online. They called me and set up phone interview, which was followed by an in-person interview at the Department of Education office. What surprised me was that you all actually met me at the office prior to my interview!

Q: It sounds like a positive first experience. How did it go from there?

A: It was! I was offered the position on the spot. From the initial call informing me of the opportunity to the offer took about 2 weeks. Everything went very smoothly.

Q: What do you like about your current position?

A: The best thing is the people. All of my co-workers are extremely dedicated to creating a better environment for the kids’ education. I love helping educators who directly impact the next generation.

Q: What advice would you give to someone looking for his or her next professional challenge?

A: Make sure you have confidence in what you are doing. Ideally, this comes from experience. If you are lacking in experience, immerse yourself in learning. Read everything you can on your topic of interest and seek certifications, if applicable. Take initiative.

Q: How is it being a Brandywine Technology employee, but working at the Department of Education?

A: It’s interesting. I feel like a State of Delaware employee, yet I have the support of Brandywine Technology’s management. It’s like the best of both worlds.

Q: Thanks, Tony, for your time. Is there one last piece of advice you would like to share?

A: Absolutely… If you’re happy in your job, then your life is good!
